Discover the seven centuries of history and legends in the heart of the oldest manor house in Normandy

Nestling in the hollow of a valley enclosed by centuries-old beech trees, le Manoir du Catel was founded during the reign of King Louis IX (‘Saint Louis’) by Richard de Treigots, 10th Abbot of Fécamp, and is the oldest lordly manor in Normandy. Built between 1267 and 1270, le Manoir du Catel was also a seat of justice and is, therefore, a symbolic monument to the spiritual and temporal authority of Fécamp Abbey.

Le Manoir du Catel also houses an exceptional 3,000 piece collection 15th to 18th-century graffiti, 300 of which are conserved in special conditions. Many among them are astonishing likenesses of boats, churches, mysterious signs, games, caricatures and religious signs, and bring those who engraved them centuries ago back to life.

In 2013, le Manoir du Catel received the major award for the most beautiful restoration of a French Historic Monument.

“Rescued and restored, le Manoir du Catel reveals to you today its secrets and charm”.
